Covid-19 Update March 2021

Several of our groups are thriving through virtual meetings and may even decide to continue that way. Unfortunatley, this is not feasible for all.
After the announcements made by the government on 22nd February, we now have more reason to look positively towards the future. If all goes well, we hope groups can decide to meet in 6’s outdoors soon if they wish, followed by indoors late May (rule of 6 again); by the end of June there will, hopefully, be something approaching normality. We may also be able to restart our monthly meetings and even celebrate last year’s belated 30th birthday of Stowmarket U3A later this year.
We are hoping that the research showing the extremely positive effects the vaccine is having on the impact of Covid 19 continues so we can all feel as safe as possible. We will keep members up to date by email or letter as things become clearer .
In the meantime, we are launching a series of monthly video talks starting on March 17th. You can read all the details on the ‘Meetings’ page.

The U3A is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment.  It consists of local U3As all over the UK, which are charities in their own right and are run entirely by volunteers.

Stowmarket U3A is affiliated to the Third Age Trust, the national organisation, which enables friendly links with neighbouring U3As. All local U3As are learning cooperatives which draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their own members to organise and provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership.

The teachers learn and the learners teach”

The U3A approach to learning is – learning for pleasure.  There is no accreditation or validation and there are no assessments or qualifications to be gained.

At the Stowmarket U3A, different speakers are invited each month to inform and entertain us on a wide range of subjects.
