Burghley House, Summer Outing June 2008

BURGHLEY HOUSE – Summer Outing

On the 18th of June we set off for our summer outing, this year to Burghley House in Stamford. The weather was far from promising but in the event it stayed dull but dry for most of the day. When we arrived, the party split up – some for a welcome cup of tea in the Orangery Restaurant (designed by Capability Brown), some to the fascinating gardens (The Rose Garden, Gardens of Suprise and the Sculpture Garden) whilst others headed straight for the magnificent Hall and the spectacular state rooms.
Considering that the house was built between 1555 and 1587 (for William Cecil), continual maintenance and restoration over the centuries has allowed it to still shine in the 21st century.

On our return, everyone agreed that Burghley House was an ideal venue for the 2008 Summer Outing – and all thanks to Philip for his excellent organistion of the day.
